One of my favorite restaurants in Marrakesh was Kasbah Cafe, located across the street from the Saadian Tombs. It was mid-afternoon and the restaurant had a few customers downstairs. Fortunately, we had the roof terrace completely to ourselves. I really enjoyed the view from there. While we waited for our food, I watched the merchants selling their textiles.
Like many restaurants in Marrakesh, the Kasbah Cafe does not serve alcohol. The waitress suggested that we order the cucumber soup to cool down. Not a fan of anything healthy I hesitated but it was mid-July and I was sweating like a pig. The cucumber soup turned out to be refreshing. I ordered the chicken tagine as my main dish. When the tagine came out with a plate full of vegetables I immediately regretted my choice. I hate vegetables and rarely eat them. I took my first bite and it was orgasmic. Yes, it was that good! The fresh chicken and vegetables were slow cooked in the tagine, a North African earthenware pot, with ground ginger, cinnamon, cumin, sweet paprika, saffron, and turmeric. The chicken tagine was a perfect mix of sweet and sour. I would definitely suggest if you are visiting the Saadian Tombs that you walk across the street to Kasbah Cafe for lunch.
