San Juan offers the perfect mix of relaxation and adrenaline rush adventures. As much as I like sleeping in, relaxing on the beach, and having absolutely no plans, vacationing isn't about just those things for me. Vacationing is about experiencing something I never tried before. I like to push myself...I like to do something that gets my adrenaline flowing. So on our second day in San Juan we got up at some ungodly hour and drove 70 minutes to Toro Verde Adventure Park in Orocovis. We stop at a small kiosk on the way to Toro Verde and had the best breakfast and view in San Juan for under $3.
When we arrived at Toro Verde we were lucky as we were the only people in our tour group (Guess no one likes waking up early while on vacation). The tour guide said the tour usually takes 4 hours. Most of that time is probably spent waiting for others to walk across the bridges because we were done in 2 hours. We choose two tours La Bestia and Toro Salvaje for a combined price of $130.
La Bestia is the world's longest zipline but for $65 I didn't think it was worth it. It was over too quickly, I wanted more. If I could do it again I would choose the Zipline Tour which is 8 seated ziplines instead of experiencing 1 min of thrill. I will say there is nothing that can come close to the exhilaration you experience from flying across the valley for nearly a mile in approximately a minute (so maybe it is worth it). The other tour Toro Salvaje is 4 hanging bridges, rappelling onto the jungle floor (it was terrifying taking the first step), and 1 seated zipline (again terrifying taking the first leap but the view was indescribable). Looking at the hanging bridges crossing them doesn't seem that bad but after taking three steps it can be terrifying. I definitely prayed several times. In between the praying and trembling I took time to take in the view, which is unparalleled, from the hanging bridges.
Toro Verde is definitely a must do while in Puerto Rico. If for nothing else but to say I conquered the beast!
