Maison de la Photographie is a hidden gem tucked away near the Medersa Ben Youssef-Koranic school in the narrow dirt back alleys of the medina in Marrakesh.  After following  an elderly man, who decided we didn't really want to find the museum, and asking several locals we found our hidden gem.
For 40 dirhams (less than $5) we entered Maison de la Photographie and viewed an impressive private collection of 4500 photographs, by unknown photographers, of daily Moroccan life from 1870 to 1950. Most of the photographs are from Tangier as it was the only port open to foreigners during that time.
A small room just off the third floor plays the first color documentary, with French commentary, made about Morocco in 1957.  The Maison de la Photographie rooftop offers a sanctuary from the hectic medina.  It's a great place to grab a cool drink and watch the sunset.  The Maison De La Photographie is definitely a gem worth the hunt.
